Chevrolet 454 SS

Chevrolet launched the 454 SS in 1990 as a high-performance variant of its C1500 pickup, creating one of the first modern muscle trucks. All 1990 models were regular cab, short-bed trucks painted Onyx Black and equipped with a 7.4L V8 making 230 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. For 1991, Chevy added a 4-speed 4L80E automatic transmission which increased output to 255 hp and 405 lb-ft, and offered Summit White and Victory Red as color options. Production was limited, with just under 17,000 units built over its 4-year run, making them relatively scarce today.

The 454 SS is a collector favorite for its simple, no-frills performance formula and its status as a trendsetter. Its combination of a big-block V8, rear-wheel drive, and menacing looks in a lightweight package captured the spirit of classic muscle cars.
