Mercedes-Benz GLE/M-Class

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class debuted in 1997 as a unibody luxury SUV built in the United States, a first for the brand. The initial W163 generation was a huge sales success and paved the way for rivals. It evolved through the W164 and W166 generations, receiving the GLE nameplate during the W166's 2015 facelift, which better aligned it with the E-Class sedan.

Collectors are increasingly drawn to the early AMG models, particularly the W163 ML55 AMG, which helped pioneer the high-performance SUV segment. Later ML63 and GLE 63 models offer staggering performance with biturbo V8 power. While most non-AMG examples are simply used vehicles, low-mileage, well-preserved early M-Class SUVs are becoming uncommon and finding appreciation for their historical significance.

The market for the M-Class and GLE is incredibly broad. The average sale price of just over $16,000 is driven by a high volume of depreciated W164 and W166 models from the 2010s. Early W163s can be found for under $5,000, while the market's high end is defined by recent, low-mileage GLE 63 S models which can exceed $130,000.

Prices span a huge range, from under $1,000 for project cars to $134,000 for recent, high-performance AMG models.
