The Nissan Altima began in 1992 as a compact sedan, evolving into a mid-size competitor against the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. While most of its six generations served as reliable family transportation, Nissan occasionally produced performance-oriented versions. The most notable is the third-generation SE-R (2005-2006), which packed a 260 hp 3.5L VQ35DE V6 and an optional 6-speed manual transmission, making it a true sleeper.

Collector interest is almost exclusively focused on these niche performance models. The SE-R represents a high point for enthusiast-focused Altima production, offering a practical sedan with surprising performance. The majority of the 40 sales tracked are for standard commuter models, reflecting the Altima's primary role as a daily driver. The extreme high end of the market is occupied by V8-powered Altima race cars built for Australia's Supercars Championship, which are a world away from the road-going versions.

The market for the Altima is split. Most cars trade for under $10,000, serving the used car market rather than the collector space. The average sale price of $9,269 confirms this. However, clean, low-mileage SE-R models are seeing appreciation from enthusiasts, while the purpose-built race cars represent a tiny, high-value motorsport niche.

Prices range from $250 for project cars to $200,000 for professionally prepared race cars.
