The 982-generation Porsche 718 Cayman, introduced for the 2017 model year, marked a controversial but significant change. It replaced the beloved naturally aspirated flat-six engines of its predecessor with turbocharged 2.0L and 2.5L flat-four engines. While the new engines provided a substantial torque increase and improved performance metrics, many purists lamented the loss of the old engine's sound and linear power delivery.

Early, higher-mileage four-cylinder cars represent the entry point, while low-mileage GTS 4.0 and GT4 models trade for significant premiums, often holding their value better than many contemporary 911s. The average sale price of around $64,000 shows that the more accessible turbo models make up the bulk of transactions, but the ceiling is set by the exclusive flat-six cars.
