Volvo S60 2nd Gen

The second-generation Volvo S60, built on the P3 platform, marked a significant design evolution for the brand. Launched for the 2011 model year, it abandoned boxy proportions for a sleek, coupe-like profile aimed at competitors like the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series. Drivetrain options were plentiful, ranging from the workhorse T5 inline-5 to the potent T6 inline-6, and later, the efficient Drive-E 4-cylinder engines. All-wheel drive was a popular option, enhancing its all-weather capability.

For collectors, the conversation begins and ends with the Polestar models. Introduced in 2015, these limited-production halo cars were Volvo's factory-backed answer to BMW M and Mercedes-AMG. Early S60 Polestars featured a 345 hp turbocharged inline-6, while 2017-2018 models received a 362 hp twin-charged 4-cylinder. With Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes, and unique styling, they offer a compelling mix of performance and Swedish sensibility.

The market for the second-gen S60 is sharply divided. The vast majority of sales are for standard T5 and T6 models, which trade as affordable and reliable used cars, reflected in the low average sale price. The rare Polestar variants, however, command significant premiums and represent the top of the market. These cars have a dedicated following and are the only versions with legitimate collectibility and potential for appreciation.

Prices range from as little as $515 for high-mileage or project cars to $54,900 for top-spec, low-mileage Polestar editions.
