How VIN tracking works

Hypercars extracts modern 17-character VINs from public listings and groups records with the same VIN. This feed includes vehicles with at least two dated appearances on two platforms during the past year and at least one appearance during the past 30 days.

Each expanded card shows the dates, sources, reported prices, and outcomes in that one-year period. For all known public appearances in Hypercars, use the VIN Decoder & Auction History. For a broader value estimate, use the car valuation tool.

Why cars appear more than once

The same car may be advertised on several platforms at once. It may also move to another venue after an unsold auction or reappear after changing hands.

Review the sequence with the listing photos, descriptions, prices, and outcomes. The sequence can provide useful context, but it does not identify the seller or explain why the car was relisted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are frequent flyers in car auctions?

Frequent Flyers are modern-VIN cars with cross-platform listing appearances. The feed can include simultaneous cross-posts or chronological relists and focuses on dated appearances from the past year.

How does VIN matching work across platforms?

We match modern 17-character VINs across public listings. Eligible cars have at least two dated appearances on at least two platforms during the past year, including one appearance during the past 30 days. Expanding a card shows that same one-year cohort; the VIN tool provides complete known public history.

Why do cars get listed on multiple platforms?

Listings may run on several platforms at the same time, move to another venue after an unsold result, or reappear after the car changes hands. The feed records the appearances but does not determine why a car was relisted.

What does a car appearing on multiple platforms mean for buyers?

Compare the dates, prices, photos, and outcomes across appearances. A repeat appearance alone does not establish ownership, condition, seller motivation, or the reason for relisting.

How many platforms does Frequent Flyers cover?

Coverage includes Bring a Trailer, Cars & Bids, eBay Motors, PCARMARKET, Collecting Cars, Mecum, and other tracked sources. A listing must include a valid modern VIN and a date to qualify for this feed.
