More details
115720 Collaboration between The Standard Motor Company and Warwick-based coachbuilder New Avon resulted in a series of stylish Avon sports models on a wide variety of Standard chassis throughout the 1930s. During the 1920s New Avon had built mainly for Lea-Francis, beginning to offer designs on the Austin Seven chassis towards the decade's end, one of which - the Swan fixed-head coupe - had been drawn up for them by the Jensen brothers. The Jensens' connection had originally been with Standard for whom they had built 'Jensen Special No 2', a styling exercise on a Nine chassis; and while Standard chose not to take up the rights to the design, a chance introduction to New Avon resulted in the latter hiring the Jensens to design a production model.
The Jensen/New Avon association did not last long, but the Avon-bodied Standards continued under the supervision of stylist C F Beauvais until New Avon's bankruptcy in 1937 brought a halt to the line. This example on the Standard six-cylinder, 2,054cc 16hp chassis was acquired by the present owner in 2001, having undergone significant mechanical refurbishment, including a full engine and gearbox rebuild, the previous year. The vehicle has been used and started regularly while in present ownership, covering 400-500 miles only, mainly to classic vehicle shows, and remains in excellent condition throughout.
Finished in green with matching carpets and brown leather upholstery, the car is offered with old-style logbook, current road fund licence/MoT and Swansea V5 registration document.
