Listings
The Dodge Stealth was a product of the Diamond-Star Motors partnership between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. Sold from 1991 to 1996, it was a captive import based on the Mitsubishi 3000GT. The top-tier R/T Turbo model featured a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and active aerodynamics, making it one of the most technologically advanced sports cars of its time.
Collectors are drawn to the Stealth R/T Turbo for its potent performance and 90s styling. With 300 hp (and later 320 hp), it offered serious speed, yet it's often more affordable than its Japanese contemporaries. Its distinct Dodge styling, including the cross-hair grille on early models and a crescent rear wing, sets it apart from its 3000GT sibling and gives it a unique appeal for enthusiasts.
Buying Tips
- On R/T Turbo models, verify the active aerodynamics are functional. The front and rear spoilers often fail and parts are difficult to find.
- The 6G72 twin-turbo V6 is complex. A complete service history is crucial, and the 60k-mile service (timing belt, water pump) is non-negotiable.
- The all-wheel drive transfer case is a known weak point. Listen for unusual whirring or grinding noises during a test drive, especially during turns.
- Check all interior electronics. The digital climate control display and original stereo are common failure points due to aging capacitors.
- Inspect the strut towers and rocker panels for rust, which can be a serious issue on cars that saw winter use.
