Listings
The Lincoln LS debuted for the 2000 model year as a bold attempt to compete with European sport sedans. Sharing the rear-wheel-drive DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type, the LS offered either a 3.0L V6 or a 3.9L V8 engine. It represented a significant shift for Lincoln, prioritizing handling and driver engagement over traditional luxury.
Collectors are drawn to the LS for its unique place in Lincoln's history and its engineering connection to Jaguar. The V6 model's 5-speed manual transmission, offered from 2000-2002, is particularly rare and sought after by enthusiasts. The post-facelift 2003-2006 models gained variable valve timing for the V8, bumping output to 280 horsepower and improving the car's performance credentials.
Buying Tips
- Check the 3.9L V8 for oil leaks from the valve cover gaskets, a very common issue.
- Early V8s used plastic timing chain tensioners that can fail; listen for chain rattle on startup.
- The 5R55N automatic transmission can suffer from solenoid issues and worn servo bores. Ensure shifts are smooth and quick.
- The hydraulic cooling fan system can leak or fail, leading to overheating. Inspect the pump and lines for any wetness.
- Test all electronics, including the instrument cluster, climate control, and window regulators, as failures aren't uncommon.
