- Pre-facelift cars (2003-2006) used Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC). The pump has a finite lifespan, so check its service history to see if it has been replaced under Mercedes' extended warranty.
- On V12 models like the SL 600 and SL 65, the ignition coil packs are a common and very expensive failure point. A misfire under load can indicate a costly repair is needed.
- Check for water ingress in the cabin and trunk. Aged or failing rubber seals around the complex hardtop are a common source of leaks.
