Buying Tips
- Check for rust, especially in the front strut towers, rocker panels, and floor pans, as this is the most common and expensive issue.
- The 2001-2004 models with the 3.5L VQ35DE engine are far more desirable than the earlier, underpowered 3.3L V6.
- On 3.3L models, ensure the timing belt has been replaced at the recommended 105,000-mile interval. Failure is catastrophic.
- Be aware of the 'strawberry milkshake of death,' where the transmission cooler inside the radiator fails, mixing coolant and ATF. Check both fluids for contamination.
- Test the 4WD system thoroughly. The electronic shift-on-the-fly system can suffer from actuator motor failures.
