Listings
The Triumph TR8 is the V8-powered evolution of the wedge-shaped TR7. Triumph swapped the TR7's 4-cylinder engine for the lightweight, all-aluminum Rover 3.5-liter V8. This move dramatically improved performance, creating a car often nicknamed the 'British Corvette.' Most of the approximately 2,800 cars produced were convertibles built from 1980 to 1982 for the North American market.
Buying Tips
- Check for rust thoroughly, especially in the sills, floor pans, strut towers, and trunk floor.
- The Rover V8 is durable but susceptible to overheating. Look for signs of coolant leaks or past head gasket repairs.
- Verify it's a factory TR8 and not a TR7 conversion. The VIN for a genuine TR8 convertible starts with 'TPVDJ8AA'.
- Test all electrical components, as Lucas wiring can be a source of persistent issues.
