Volvo Amazon Submodels
The Volvo Amazon, or 120 Series, was a stylish and durable family car produced from 1956 to 1970. Designed by Jan Wilsgaard, its ponton styling was a significant departure from the bulbous PV444 it initially supplemented. The Amazon cemented Volvo's reputation for safety and reliability, being the first production car to feature 3-point seatbelts as standard equipment.
Buying Tips
- Check thoroughly for rust in the rocker panels, floor pans, lower fenders, and around the front and rear glass.
- The B18 and B20 engines are tough, but inspect the cooling system for signs of overheating and check for oil leaks from the rear main seal.
- Suspension bushings wear out, leading to vague handling. Listen for clunks and check for worn ball joints and tie rod ends.
- Interior parts and exterior chrome trim can be difficult to source. Prioritize finding a car that is as complete as possible to avoid a costly search for missing pieces.
