This SM is now offered at no reserve with the owner’s manual, SM World Citroen SM manuals, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. Styled by Citroën’s chief designer, Robert Opron, the SM debuted in 1970 sporting a Kamm tail and tapered bodywork with a narrower rear track than the front. This example was previously finished in gold and was repainted dark blue under prior ownership.
Features include a power antenna, rain-sensing windshield wipers, quad headlights, bright bumpers, protective side moldings, and dual exhaust outlets. The 15″ steel wheels wear covers and were mounted with 205/60 Vredestein tires in 2025, and braking is handled by power-assisted discs at each corner. The car is equipped with self-centering power steering and rides on a self-leveling and height-adjustable hydropneumatic suspension with parallel semi-trailing arms up front and trailing arms out back.
The suspension spheres were replaced in 2017. The front bucket seats and rear bench were re-trimmed in Tobacco leather in the late 1990s, and interior appointments include a Sony cassette stereo, an electric rear window defroster, air conditioning, and power windows. The suspension height is set with a lever to the left of the driver’s seat.
The seller notes worn chrome trim. The leather-wrapped, single-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilting and telescoping column and frames Jaeger instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline accompanied by an array of indicator lights. Auxiliary gauges indicating water temperature, fuel level, and oil temperature are located in the center of the dash along with a clock.
The five-digit odometer shows 33k miles, approximately 9k of which were added under current ownership. The 3.0-liter V6 was sourced from Maserati—a subsidiary of Citroën between 1968 and 1975—and features three Weber two-barrel carburetors for a factory rating of 190 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. The left side wiring harness and relays were replaced in 2019, and the air conditioning pump and expansion valve were also replaced that year.
The seller notes that the exhaust valves have not been replaced. The seller states that a compression test indicated that all cylinders measured between 150-155 psi. Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
The clutch and hydraulic cylinders were replaced in 2017. There is a hole in the left exhaust resonator. The car is titled in California using VIN AC7300SD0605, while serial number 00SD0605 is shown on the plate above.
