AMC Javelin

Launched in 1968, the Javelin was AMC's answer to the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. It offered distinctive styling and a range of inline-6 and V8 engines, providing a unique alternative in the crowded pony car market. The second generation, introduced for 1971, featured even more dramatic styling with large fender bulges inspired by the Corvette.

Collectors appreciate the Javelin for its underdog status and racing heritage. Mark Donohue's success driving Javelins in the SCCA Trans-Am series, including championships in 1971 and 1972, cemented its performance credentials. High-performance models with the "Go Package" and larger V8s like the 390 and 401 are the most sought-after, as are the unique designer editions from Pierre Cardin and Gucci.

Compared to its mainstream rivals, the Javelin market is smaller but represents strong value. With an average price below $20,000, it's an accessible entry point into V8-powered classic American muscle. Pristine, numbers-matching AMX or Go Package cars command the highest prices, but driver-quality examples remain affordable.
