Cadillac Catera

The Cadillac Catera was GM's attempt to fight European sport sedans in the late 1990s. It's a rebadged German-built Opel Omega MV6, equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 and rear-wheel drive. The car is famous for its "Caddy that zigs" marketing campaign featuring a cartoon duck, which failed to connect with its intended younger, import-driving audience. It was sold from 1997 to 2001 and was ultimately replaced by the more successful CTS.

Collectibility for the Catera is niche, appealing to enthusiasts of '90s curiosities and brand completists. Most were driven daily and discarded, so finding a well-preserved, low-mileage example is difficult. The Catera Sport, introduced in 1999, is the most desirable variant, offering better seats and suspension tuning. These cars represent an unusual chapter for Cadillac before it found its footing with the Art & Science design language.

The market for the Catera is small and thin, with very few transactions. While most examples trade for under $10,000, the huge spread between the low and high sales shows the premium placed on condition. The $26,000 sale of a 2001 model in 2023 demonstrates that a market exists for immaculate, time-capsule cars, but these are extreme outliers.

Prices for sold examples have ranged from $1,313 for project cars to $26,000 for exceptional, low-mileage survivors.
