The 8th generation DeVille, sold from 2000 to 2005, marked a major styling shift for Cadillac. Built on the G-platform, it featured a sleeker, more European-influenced design and came standard with the Northstar V8. It was also the first production car to offer a Night Vision system, an impressive technological feat for its time.
Collectors are drawn to the 8th gen as it's the final chapter for the historic DeVille nameplate before it was replaced by the DTS. The sport-oriented DTS trim, with its 300 hp Northstar and firmer suspension, is the most desirable model. These cars represent a comfortable and affordable entry into early 2000s American luxury.
Buying Tips
- The Northstar V8 is known for head gasket issues, which is an expensive repair. Check for coolant loss, signs of overheating, or milky residue on the oil cap.
- Test all electronics thoroughly, from the digital instrument cluster to the climate controls and power accessories. If equipped, ensure the rare Night Vision system functions correctly.
- Check the air suspension on DHS and DTS models for sagging or a constantly running compressor, which signals a leak or failing components.
- Water leaks are common, so inspect the trunk floor and front passenger footwell for any signs of moisture, staining, or rust.
