Chevrolet Cobalt

The Chevrolet Cobalt replaced the long-running Cavalier as GM's entry-level compact car for the 2005 model year. Available as a coupe or sedan, most Cobalts were simple economy cars sold with naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines. These base models have little collector interest and trade as simple used cars.

The exception is the high-performance Cobalt SS. Early 2005-2007 models featured a 205 horsepower supercharged 2.0L Ecotec engine, but the most desirable version arrived in 2008. The updated Cobalt SS used a 2.0L turbocharged and direct-injected Ecotec LNF engine, producing 260 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain turned the humble Cobalt into a serious performance car that could compete with the best sport compacts of its day.

Today, the market for the Cobalt is split in two. Standard models are worth very little, often trading for under $5,000. The focus for collectors is entirely on the SS, particularly the 2008-2010 turbocharged models. Low-mileage, unmodified examples are rare and can command prices approaching $20,000, representing the top of a very niche market.

Prices range from $250 for base models to $19,750 for pristine, low-mileage SS examples.
