- The transfer case is prone to 'pump rub,' where the oil pump wears a hole in the magnesium housing, causing a fluid leak. Check for any drips from the transfer case.
- Due to the truck's heavy front end, inspect ball joints, tie rods, idler/pitman arms, and wheel bearings for wear, which can manifest as steering wander or clunking noises.
- The Allison 1000 transmission is robust, but ensure it shifts smoothly. Any harsh shifting or slipping can indicate internal issues or problems with the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
