Chrysler Imperial

Imperial began in 1926 as Chrysler's direct competitor to Cadillac and Lincoln. For most of its run, it was positioned as a separate luxury brand, not just a top-tier Chrysler model. Its history covers everything from elegant pre-war classics to the flamboyant Virgil Exner "Forward Look" cars of the late 50s and the stately, slab-sided models of the 60s.

Collectors are most drawn to the 1957-1963 models for their iconic fins and chrome, which represent a high point in American automotive exuberance. The Elwood Engel-designed 1964-1968 cars are also highly regarded for their quality construction and clean, Lincoln-esque styling. Rare convertibles from any period, especially the late 50s, are the most sought-after variants.

The current market is very broad, with an average sale price of $26,290 reflecting the huge variety of models and conditions. While running 1970s sedans can be found for under $10,000, top-tier "Forward Look" convertibles and immaculate pre-war models can command prices north of $80,000.

Prices range from $2,054 for project cars to $85,000 for pristine, rare convertibles.
