Dodge Lancer

The Dodge Lancer first appeared in 1961 as a more stylish and slightly larger version of Plymouth's successful Valiant. Available as a sedan, hardtop, or wagon, it offered Chrysler's dependable Slant-6 engine or an optional V8, setting it apart from its Plymouth cousin. These early Lancers, particularly the GT hardtop models, are appreciated for their Virgil Exner-era styling and are a less common alternative to the Falcon or Corvair.

The Lancer name returned in 1985 for a mid-size 5-door hatchback built on the front-wheel-drive Chrysler K platform. This version aimed to bring a European sport sedan feel to the Dodge lineup, especially in its turbocharged forms. The pinnacle was the 1987 Shelby Lancer, a limited-production model with a 175 hp Turbo II engine, upgraded suspension, and specific bodywork that attracts collectors of '80s turbo Mopars.

With only 11 sales recorded on our platform, the market for any Lancer is thin. The low average price near $9,000 shows they are very accessible classics. Well-preserved early V8 cars and genuine Shelby Lancers command the highest prices, but even these rarely exceed $21,000, making them a bargain.
