Ford Expedition

Ford launched the Expedition for the 1997 model year to compete directly with GM's full-size SUVs. Based on the F-150, it shared powertrains like the 4.6L and 5.4L Triton V8s and offered seating for up to 9. It immediately became a popular choice for large families, replacing the two-door Bronco as Ford's primary big utility vehicle.

Collector interest is growing for first-generation (1997-2002) models, especially well-preserved Eddie Bauer editions. Their simple, truck-based mechanicals and classic 90s styling evoke nostalgia. These early SUVs represent the peak of the traditional body-on-frame family hauler era, before crossovers became the dominant format.

The market for Expeditions is diverse, with an average sale price around $17,254 reflecting a mix of older beaters and newer used examples. While high-mileage workhorses sell for very little, low-mileage first- and second-generation survivors are beginning to command higher prices as modern classics.

Prices range from $350 for project vehicles to $61,342 for late-model, high-trim examples.
