Ford F-Series 2nd Gen

Ford's second-generation F-Series, sold from 1953 to 1956, was a major leap forward in truck design. It introduced the F-100, F-250, and F-350 naming scheme we know today, replacing the old F-1, F-2, and F-3 designations. The new trucks featured a more modern design with integrated fenders, a larger and more comfortable cab, and a new overhead-valve "Y-block" V8 starting in 1954, which replaced the venerable flathead.

Collectors are drawn to the 2nd Gen's classic 1950s styling, with the 1956 model being particularly desirable for its unique vertical A-pillars and wraparound windshield. These trucks are mechanically simple, making them easy to maintain and modify. A robust aftermarket provides excellent parts support for restorations and custom builds, which contributes to their continued popularity. They are a common sight at car shows, often appearing as highly original survivors, period-correct restorations, or high-dollar restomods.

The market for these trucks is broad, with an average sale price around $32,000. Project trucks can be found for just a few thousand dollars, while drivable, nicely restored examples occupy the middle of the market. The high end, stretching past $200,000, is reserved for concours-quality restorations and professionally built restomods featuring modern drivetrains, suspensions, and luxury interiors.
