Ford Falcon 1st Gen

Ford introduced the Falcon in 1960 as a direct competitor to imported economy cars like the Volkswagen Beetle and domestic rivals like the Chevrolet Corvair. Unlike the more radical Corvair, the Falcon used a conventional front-engine, rear-drive layout that proved to be a reliable and sales-winning formula. Its unibody platform was so successful that it became the foundation for numerous other Ford models, most famously the Mustang and the Fairlane.

The first-generation Falcon's appeal lies in its simplicity, clean styling, and broad range of body styles, including sedans, coupes, wagons, convertibles, and the Ranchero pickup. Collectors appreciate the easy-to-work-on inline-6 engines and the availability of parts. The sportier Futura and Sprint models, especially the V8-powered Sprints from 1963, are the most sought-after by enthusiasts and command the highest prices. The car's connection to the Mustang adds another layer of historical significance.

The market for these Falcons is very diverse. Base model sedans and wagons can still be found affordably, making them excellent entry-level classics. Pristine convertibles and V8 Sprint models, however, have seen significant appreciation. The average sale price of around $19,521 is skewed by these top-tier examples, but plenty of driver-quality cars trade for less.

Prices range from as low as $1,800 for project cars to a high of $155,000 for rare, professionally restored models like the V8 Sprint.
