Ford S550 Mustang

The S550 Mustang, launched for the 2015 model year, represented a major evolution for Ford's pony car. It was the first Mustang to feature an independent rear suspension as standard equipment, transforming its handling dynamics to better compete with European sports coupes. The platform was designed for a global audience and offered a range of engines, including a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost, the workhorse 5.0L Coyote V8, and special high-performance V8s for the Shelby models.

Collector interest primarily centers on the limited-production, high-performance variants. The Shelby GT350 and its track-focused sibling, the GT350R, are prized for their high-revving, flat-plane crank 5.2L Voodoo V8. The later 760 hp Shelby GT500 represents the peak of S550 performance and commands the highest prices. Other special editions like the Bullitt and Mach 1 also have strong followings for their unique content and nostalgic appeal.

The market for the S550 is diverse. Standard GT and EcoBoost models are widely available and trade as modern used cars, offering a great performance-per-dollar value. The collector market, however, is driven by the Shelbys. While early GT350s have depreciated into a more accessible price point, low-mileage GT350Rs and GT500s with desirable options like the Carbon Fiber Track Pack continue to trade for significant premiums.

Based on 388 sales, prices range from just over $20,000 for high-mileage base models to $175,000 for low-mileage Shelby variants.
