GMC introduced the Acadia for the 2007 model year as its first-ever crossover and first front-wheel drive vehicle. Sharing the GM Lambda platform with the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse, the Acadia offered three-row seating for up to 8 passengers, moving GMC into the heart of the family SUV market. The luxurious Denali trim, added in 2011, brought a higher level of equipment and styling that proved very popular.
The first-generation Acadia, built until 2016, is the model most frequently traded. It's not a traditional collectible; instead, it's a practical and spacious family vehicle that has depreciated significantly. Buyers are typically looking for a low-cost, three-row SUV, with well-equipped Denali versions holding the most appeal for their blend of utility and features.
With an average sale price under $8,000, the market sees the Acadia as an affordable used vehicle. The wide price range reflects the vast difference between early, high-mileage examples and nearly new, second-generation models. Well-maintained, low-mileage Denalis from the first generation represent the market's sweet spot.
Buying Tips
- The 3.6L V6 in 2007-2012 models is known for timing chain failures; listen for rattling on startup and check service history for replacement.
- Early 6-speed automatic transmissions can suffer from a failed 3-5-R wave plate, leading to shifting problems. Test for smooth gear changes during the test drive.
- Check for water leaks in the cabin, a common issue stemming from clogged sunroof drains or leaking windshield seals.
- Test all electronic features, particularly on Denali trims, as a failing module or accessory can lead to an expensive repair.
Reported sales range from nominal values for project cars to over $28,000 for newer, low-mileage examples.
