Honda Z

The Honda Z, first launched in 1970 as the Z360 and Z600, is one of Honda's most recognizable early kei cars. Based on the N-series platform, its quirky, sporty coupe styling and distinctive 'scuba mask' glass rear hatch made it an instant icon. The US-market Z600 featured a larger 598cc air-cooled 2-cylinder engine and was one of Honda's first major automotive exports.

Collectors are drawn to the original 1970-1974 Z600 for its unique design, compact size, and historical significance. A second, completely different generation was produced from 1998 to 2002. This model, chassis code PA1, was a tall, rugged kei SUV with a mid-mounted 3-cylinder engine and available 4WD. While the original coupe is the primary collector focus, the later SUV has a cult following for its unusual engineering and capability.

The market for the Honda Z is defined by these two distinct generations. The wide price spread reflects this, with project cars and later PA1 models occupying the lower end. Pristine, restored examples of the original Z600 command the highest values, often exceeding $30,000. Most sales center on good-condition, driver-quality Z600s.
