Hudson Commodore

The Hudson Commodore served as the brand's top-of-the-line model from 1941 until 1952. Production was interrupted by WWII, but the Commodore returned with pre-war styling before a major redesign for 1948. This introduced the famous "step-down" chassis, a semi-unibody construction where the floor pan was recessed between the frame rails. This design gave the car a lower center of gravity, superior handling for its day, and a sleek, low-slung appearance.

Collectors appreciate the Commodore for its advanced engineering and distinctive styling, especially the 1948-1952 step-down models. These cars dominated early NASCAR racing, adding a performance pedigree to their luxurious appointments. Convertibles and Hollywood hardtop coupes are the most sought-after body styles, particularly when equipped with the smooth 128 hp inline-8 engine. Pre-war examples are also valued for their classic Art Deco design elements.
