Jaguar Mark IV

Produced both before and after WWII, the car we now call the Mark IV was originally sold as the SS Jaguar and later simply as the Jaguar 1.5, 2.5, or 3.5 Litre. The 'Mark IV' designation was applied retrospectively to distinguish it from the succeeding Mark V. Available as a four-door saloon or a much rarer two-door drophead coupe, these cars represent the final evolution of Jaguar's pre-war styling.

Collectors are drawn to the Mark IV for its stately, elegant design that epitomizes 1930s British luxury. The 6-cylinder 3.5 Litre models are the most powerful and desirable, especially in the drophead coupe body style, which is considered the pinnacle of the range. They offer a classic, upright driving experience that contrasts with the sports cars Jaguar would soon become famous for.

The market for the Mark IV is diverse. The low end, under $30,000, typically consists of 1.5 Litre saloons needing work. The high end is dominated by perfectly restored 3.5 Litre drophead coupes, which can command prices over $300,000. Most sales activity happens between these extremes, with condition, engine size, and body style being the primary value drivers.
