Listings
The Kia Soul launched in 2009, bringing a unique, boxy design to the subcompact segment. Conceived at Kia's California design studio, its distinctive shape and memorable hamster marketing campaigns immediately set it apart. The Soul offered practicality and personality in an affordable package, attracting buyers who wanted something different from a typical small car.
While not a traditional collector car, the Soul has a cult following thanks to its quirky style and utility. Early first-generation models (2009-2013) are gaining some interest for their pure design, but the car remains firmly in the used car market. Its appeal is based on low running costs and standout looks rather than performance or rarity.
Buying Tips
- Check for excessive oil consumption on 1.6L and 2.0L GDI engines, as some were subject to recalls and warranty extensions for engine failure.
- Listen for a clicking or clunking noise from the steering column, which often indicates a worn flexible steering coupler.
- Inspect the undercarriage for signs of catalytic converter theft or replacement, a common issue on vehicles with higher ground clearance.
- Test all electronics, especially the signature speaker lights and infotainment systems on higher-trim models.
- Verify the vehicle's service history and check for any open recalls with a Kia dealership.
