Laverda SF

The Laverda SF was born from the brand's 750cc twin, designed to be a tough and reliable sport-touring machine. The "SF" stands for "Super Freni" (Super Brakes), a nod to the massive 230mm drum brakes developed in-house by Laverda. These bikes earned a reputation for being overbuilt and heavy, but their stability and the torque from the parallel-twin engine made them a favorite for fast road riding.

Collectors are drawn to the SF series for its bulletproof engineering and distinct Italian character, setting it apart from its British and Japanese rivals. While the handling isn't as nimble as a Ducati 750 SS, the Laverda's frame, designed by Massimo Laverda, provides exceptional high-speed stability. The series evolved through the SF1, the disc-braked SF2, and the SF3, each with its own dedicated followers. Originality is key, as many were modified for racing or customized over the years.

The market for the Laverda SF is active but doesn't see high volume. With an average price around $14,000, excellent examples command strong money. The wide spread from under $3,000 to nearly $50,000 shows the massive value difference between a rough project bike and a perfectly restored or rare model, such as an SFC tribute or a mint-condition SF3.
