Nissan Titan Submodels

Nissan entered the full-size truck market in 2004 with the Titan. Built in Mississippi, the first-generation (A60) Titan used a potent 5.6L VK56DE V8 and offered a bold alternative to domestic trucks. It developed a reputation for strong performance but also had some well-known mechanical quirks.

The second generation (A61) arrived for the 2016 model year with a complete redesign and a notable new powertrain option: a 5.0L Cummins V8 diesel in the heavy-duty Titan XD. Though the Cummins was dropped after 2019, it remains a unique part of the Titan's history. The off-road focused PRO-4X trim, available in both generations, is especially popular with enthusiasts.

With production ending after the 2024 model year, the Titan's market position is shifting. It's still primarily a used work and utility vehicle, but the best examples are gaining attention. Low-mileage, final-year models and the short-lived Cummins XD variants hold the most potential for future collectibility.

Buying Tips

  • Check early 5.6L V8s for cracked exhaust manifolds, a frequent and costly repair.
  • Inspect the rear axle seals on first-generation models for leaks, which can lead to differential failure.
  • On Titan XD models with the 5.0L Cummins diesel, review service records for emissions system maintenance, as DPF and DEF issues were common.
  • The PRO-4X's electronic locking rear differential should be tested to ensure it engages and disengages properly.

Prices range from $511 for high-mileage examples to $55,500 for nearly new models.
