The Starfire name first appeared on an Oldsmobile concept in 1954 before becoming the top trim for the 98 series from 1954-1957. In 1961, it launched as a standalone personal luxury model, initially as a convertible only. Known for its powerful V8 engines, bucket seats, and extensive chrome, the first-generation Starfire (1961-1966) competed directly with cars like the Ford Thunderbird. Oldsmobile later revived the nameplate from 1975 to 1980 for a subcompact based on the Chevrolet Monza.
