Plymouth Neon

Launched with a friendly "Hi," the Plymouth Neon was Chrysler's successful entry into the 90s compact car market. While most were simple commuters, the platform's excellent handling and light weight made it a natural for performance. Chrysler capitalized on this with the R/T and, most notably, the ACR (American Club Racer) package, which stripped out amenities and added performance hardware like adjustable Koni shocks and a faster steering rack specifically for SCCA racing.

Collector interest is almost exclusively focused on these performance models. The ACR is the most desirable, offering a factory-prepared race-car experience that was unique for its price point. Finding a stock, low-mileage ACR is difficult, as many were raced, modified, or simply driven into the ground. Clean R/T models also have a following for their fun-to-drive character.

The market for Neons is highly condition-dependent. Base models are worth very little, often trading for under $2,000. However, the recent sale of an ACR for over $10,000 shows that exceptional, original examples are building a dedicated following. These cars represent an accessible entry point into 90s motorsport-derived collectibles.
