Pontiac Safari

The Pontiac Safari debuted in 1955 as a 2-door hardtop sport wagon, sharing its premium body and concept with the Chevrolet Nomad. These 'Tri-Five' Safaris were a low-production, high-style offering. After 1957, the Safari name was applied to Pontiac's more conventional 4-door full-size station wagons, a role it filled through various GM platforms for decades.

The most collectible Safaris are the original 1955-1957 models. Their unique design, rarity, and connection to the Nomad make them highly sought-after, often commanding the highest prices. Later wagons from the 1960s and 1970s attract enthusiasts with their big V8 engines and classic American styling, while the final 1980s B-body wagons offer a more affordable entry into classic wagon ownership.

The market for the Safari is sharply divided by generation. A small number of restored 1955-1957 models can sell for over $75,000, which significantly impacts the average sale price of $21,344. However, the vast majority of Safari transactions involve later 4-door models from the 1960s onward, which typically trade for between $10,000 and $30,000 depending on condition.
