Saab 9-2X

The Saab 9-2X, often called the 'Saabaru,' was a short-lived product of General Motors' ownership of Saab and its stake in Subaru's parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries. Sold only for the 2005 and 2006 model years, the 9-2X is a re-styled Subaru Impreza wagon. It received Saab-specific front and rear fascias, revised suspension tuning, and a slightly more upscale interior to differentiate it from its Japanese twin.

Collectors seek out the 9-2X for its unique blend of Subaru's rally-bred performance and Saab's quirky, premium image. The top-trim Aero model is the most desirable, as it shares its turbocharged engine and all-wheel-drive system with the contemporary WRX. With only 10,346 examples produced over two years, its rarity adds to the appeal, offering a more distinctive and subtle alternative to a standard WRX.

The market for the 9-2X is active but remains niche. While many are still used as drivers, values for clean, low-mileage Aero models have been steadily climbing, mirroring the trend for second-generation WRXs. An average sale price around $10,000 shows there are affordable entry points, but top-tier examples now command over double that, rewarding well-preserved originality.

Prices range from $570 for project cars to $25,000 for excellent, low-mileage Aero examples.
