Saturn Sky Submodels
The Saturn Sky was a short-lived 2-seat roadster produced from 2007 to 2009, sharing its Kappa platform with the Pontiac Solstice. As a halo car for the Saturn brand, its sharp styling by Franz von Holzhausen was a dramatic departure from the brand's typically staid designs. Production ended abruptly with the dissolution of Saturn, making the Sky a final, stylish statement from the defunct American automaker.
Collectors appreciate the Sky for its distinctive looks and classic front-engine, rear-drive layout. The most sought-after version is the Red Line, which features a 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec engine producing 260 horsepower, a significant jump from the base model's 177 horsepower 2.4L engine. With just over 34,000 units built, its relative rarity and unique place in GM's history make it an interesting modern collectible.
Buying Tips
- Check the rear differential for whining or clunking, a known weak point, especially on abused Red Line models.
- Inspect the manual convertible top seals for wear and tear, and check the trunk for signs of water leaks.
- The 2.0L direct-injection turbo engine in the Red Line can be sensitive to maintenance; look for service records and listen for timing chain noise.
- Interior plastics are prone to scratches and scuffs, so check high-contact areas like the door panels and center console for excessive wear.
