Suzuki TM & RM

Suzuki's entry into production motocross bikes began with the TM series in 1971. The most infamous of the line, the TM400 Cyclone, developed a fearsome reputation for its unpredictable power delivery. In 1975, Suzuki replaced the TMs with the much-improved RM (Racing Model) series. Developed with input from world champion Roger DeCoster, the RMs featured better handling, more linear power, and innovative long-travel suspension, like the famous "Full Floater" system introduced in 1981, establishing Suzuki as a dominant force in the sport.

Collectors are drawn to these bikes for their historical significance and heavy dose of nostalgia. Many grew up racing or wanting an RM, and the iconic yellow plastic is instantly recognizable. Early TMs are valued for their rarity and challenging character, while 1970s and 80s RMs are extremely popular in vintage motocross (VMX) racing events. Bikes with documented race history or period-correct restorations command the most attention.

The market for TM and RM models is quite accessible. With an average sale price under $5,000, it's an affordable entry into vintage motorcycle collecting. The wide price range reflects the difference between well-used trail bikes and perfectly restored examples of desirable models like the RM125A or RM370. As major manufacturers have stopped producing 2-stroke motocross bikes, interest in the final generation of RMs from the 2000s has also grown steadily.

Prices for Suzuki TM and RM motorcycles range from $1,050 for projects to $13,000 for professionally restored or historically significant examples.
