The Toyota Soarer began in 1981 as Toyota's flagship personal luxury coupe, a domestic-market sibling to the Celica XX, which later became the Supra. While early Z10 and Z20 generations were Japan-only, the Z30 generation (1991-2000) gained international fame as the Lexus SC 300 and SC 400. In Japan, the Z30 Soarer offered the desirable 2.5-liter 1JZ-GTE twin-turbo inline-6, an engine it shared with other Toyota performance icons.

Collectors prioritize the Z30 models equipped with the 1JZ-GTE, particularly those with the factory R154 5-speed manual transmission. Its chassis is closely related to the JZA80 Supra, making it a popular and more affordable alternative for a 90s rear-wheel-drive turbo coupe. The combination of timeless styling, luxury features, and tuning potential makes it a standout.

The Soarer market is accessible, with an average sale price around $10,300. This low entry point makes it attractive for builders and first-time JDM buyers. However, prices climb significantly for clean, low-mileage, manual-transmission 1JZ models, which can sell for more than double the average. As more cars become eligible for import, values for original, unmodified examples are expected to remain firm.
