Toyota Supra 3rd Gen

The third-generation Supra, known as the A70, was a significant model because it finally separated from the Celica line in 1986. It established itself as Toyota's flagship rear-wheel-drive sports GT, featuring a new platform and powered exclusively by inline-6 engines. The lineup included the naturally aspirated 200 hp 7M-GE and the legendary 7M-GTE turbo, which produced 232 hp and made the Supra a true performance contender of its era.

Collectors are drawn to the A70 for its classic 1980s design, pop-up headlights, and engaging driving dynamics. The Turbo model with the 5-speed manual transmission is the most desirable configuration, especially those with the removable Sport Roof. Later Japanese-market models introduced the 2.5-liter twin-turbo 1JZ-GTE, an engine that's become a legend in its own right and is often swapped into US-market cars.

The market for the A70 Supra has a very wide spread, reflecting the car's diverse history. While well-kept, low-mileage Turbo models can bring strong prices, project cars and higher-mileage examples remain affordable. With an average sale price around $32,000, it represents a more accessible entry point to Supra ownership compared to the much more expensive A80 generation that followed.
