The Toyota T100 was the company's first attempt at a larger pickup for the North American market, slotting between its own compact truck and domestic full-size models. When it debuted in 1993, its sole engine was a 3.0L V6 that was quickly deemed underpowered for the truck's size. Toyota corrected this in 1995 by introducing the excellent 3.4L 5VZ-FE V6, which transformed the T100's performance and is now the engine of choice for enthusiasts. Production ended in 1998 to make way for the true full-size Tundra.
Collectors appreciate the T100 for its legendary Toyota durability, simple design, and unique place in truck history. It's a reliable, easy-to-maintain pickup that's more maneuverable than a contemporary F-150 but more capable than a Tacoma. The most desirable configuration is an SR5 Xtracab 4x4 equipped with the 3.4L V6 and a 5-speed manual transmission. Its relative scarcity compared to other Toyota trucks adds to its appeal.
