Volkswagen A5 Beetle

The A5-generation Beetle, sold from 2012 to 2019, was Volkswagen's second attempt at a modern front-engine Beetle. It replaced the cutesy New Beetle with a lower, wider, and more aggressive design that paid homage to the original Type 1. Built on the Jetta's PQ35 platform, it offered a range of powertrains including a 2.5L inline-5, 1.8L and 2.0L turbo fours, and a TDI diesel.

Collector interest is focused on the numerous special editions and performance models. The yellow-and-black GSR, the Beetle Dune, the #PinkBeetle, and the 2019 Final Edition are all attracting attention. These limited-run models, especially those with the 210-horsepower 2.0T engine and low mileage, stand out from the crowd of standard Beetles.

The market for the A5 is still maturing. While base models are plentiful and affordable, the average sale price of over $22,000 shows that buyers are willing to pay a premium for desirable trims, convertibles, and special editions. The wide spread from just over $3,000 to $67,000 highlights the difference between a high-mileage commuter and a pristine, collectible example.
