Volkswagen Eos

The Volkswagen Eos was a unique hardtop convertible produced from 2006 to 2016. Based on the Golf platform, its defining feature was an innovative 5-piece folding roof that included a fully functional glass sunroof, a rarity in the segment. Engine options included a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder and, for a short time, the desirable 3.2L VR6.

While not a blue-chip collectible, the Eos is finding its niche as an affordable modern classic. Its appeal lies in its dual personality as a comfortable coupe and an open-air convertible, combined with VW's premium interior feel for the era. The complexity of the roof mechanism is its biggest draw and its biggest weakness, making well-maintained examples increasingly sought after.

With an average sale price of just $7,420, the market is still firmly in used-car territory. However, values for low-mileage facelifted models (2012-2016) and the rare VR6 variants are holding steady. It represents an inexpensive entry point into hardtop convertible ownership.
