Launched for the 2021 model year, the second-generation Acura TLX represented a major step up for the brand. It was built on a new, Acura-exclusive platform that ditched the previous Accord underpinnings for a more rigid chassis with double-wishbone front suspension. This architecture, combined with styling heavily influenced by the Acura Type S Concept, gave the TLX a distinct and athletic presence.
The main attraction for enthusiasts is the revival of the Type S model. After a decade-long absence, the Type S name returned on a TLX powered by a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 producing 355 horsepower. Paired with Acura's torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD), the Type S became a serious contender against its German sports sedan rivals. Limited-production PMC Editions, hand-assembled at the same facility as the NSX, offer extra exclusivity and unique paint finishes.
As a modern car, the TLX is still in its depreciation curve. The market shows a wide spread between early base models and nearly-new Type S versions. While not yet a classic, the TLX Type S is considered the most desirable variant for its performance and historical significance.
