The Audi A1 debuted in 2010, marking Audi's return to the premium subcompact market on Volkswagen's PQ25 platform. It offered the refinement and technology of larger Audis in a smaller footprint, but it was never officially sold in the United States. This forbidden-fruit status makes it an interesting import for collectors, especially as early models become eligible under import regulations.

The collector market is almost entirely driven by the A1's halo model, the A1 quattro. Limited to just 333 units worldwide, this 2012 special featured a 252 hp 2.0L TFSI engine, a 6-speed manual, and all-wheel drive. These cars trade for significant sums due to their extreme rarity and high performance, single-handedly pulling the average market price upwards.

Outside of the A1 quattro, the market consists of more common variants, including the sporty S1. While standard A1s don't have strong collector interest yet, they represent a unique modern classic that stands out in North America. Their value is tied to condition, mileage, and the specific cost of importation and compliance.

Prices range from approximately $11,500 for standard models to over $64,000 for rare, high-performance variants.
