BMW F30 3 Series Sedan sold for a median of $8,725 over the last 12 months, based on 36 auction sales; the middle 50% sold between $6,325 and $11,631. 9,394 currently for sale.

The F30 3 Series, produced from 2012 to 2018, marked a significant shift for BMW by introducing a fully turbocharged engine lineup. It replaced the beloved E90 and brought new levels of efficiency and power, from the 4-cylinder N20 in the 328i to the 6-cylinder N55 in the 335i. This generation also introduced the ActiveHybrid 3 and saw a mid-cycle update in 2016 which brought the new B-series modular engines, including the excellent B58 in the 340i.

While most F30s are still in the used car phase of their life cycle, certain models are gaining enthusiast attention. Well-optioned M Sport package cars, especially the 335i and later 340i with the more reliable B58 engine, are the most sought-after. Manual transmission examples are rare and command a premium. The market is very active, with over 230 recent sales showing a strong demand for these sedans as daily drivers and project bases.

With an average sale price of just under $17,000, the F30 offers a lot of performance for the money. The wide price spread is dictated almost entirely by mileage, engine type, options, and condition. Early, high-mileage 328i models represent the bottom of the market, while pristine, low-mileage 340i M Sport examples occupy the top end.

Buying Tips

  • Check for timing chain guide issues on the N20 4-cylinder engine, identifiable by a whining sound, especially on startup.
  • Inspect for common oil leaks from the valve cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket on all engines.
  • Verify the electronic systems, including the iDrive controller and screen, function correctly as repairs can be costly.
  • The B58 engine in the 2016-2018 340i is generally considered more stout than the N55 in the earlier 335i.
  • Look for cars with extensive service records, as these turbocharged engines are sensitive to regular oil changes.

Based on 239 recent sales, prices range from $698 for project cars to $38,500 for pristine, late-model examples.
