Chevrolet Corvette C3

The third-generation Corvette, known as the C3, had an exceptionally long run from 1968 to 1982. Its styling was directly inspired by the Mako Shark II concept car, giving it one of the most recognizable silhouettes in automotive history. Early cars from 1968-1972 featured chrome bumpers and potent engine options, including the legendary 427-cubic-inch L88, which represents the peak of C3 performance.

As production continued, tightening emissions regulations and the fuel crisis of the 1970s saw a dramatic shift in the C3's character. Big-block engines were phased out, and horsepower ratings for the standard small-block V8s dropped significantly. The car evolved from a raw muscle machine into more of a personal luxury GT, with T-tops becoming a standard feature and interiors gaining more amenities. This evolution created a vast and diverse market for collectors.

The C3 market is defined by its extremes. Early, numbers-matching, big-block cars, especially rare option codes like the L88 or ZR1, command six-figure prices and are highly sought after by serious collectors. In contrast, late 1970s and early 1980s models are among the most affordable entry points into classic Corvette ownership, with an average sale price hovering around $30,000 for solid examples.

Prices range from under $10,000 for project cars to over $631,000 for the rarest, investment-grade L88 models.
