Ducati 749

The Ducati 749, designed by Pierre Terblanche, was the successor to the much-loved 748. Produced from 2003 to 2006, its sharp, stacked-headlight design was controversial at the time but has since found a dedicated following. The 749 featured the new Testastretta engine, a trellis frame, and adjustable ergonomics, making it a more modern and user-friendly superbike than its predecessor.

Collectors appreciate the 749 for its unique place in Ducati's history and its raw, analog performance. While the base model is a capable machine, the 'S' and 'R' versions are the most sought-after. The 749R, a true homologation special, featured a more powerful engine, a carbon fiber body, and top-spec Öhlins suspension. It was a race bike for the road.

After years of being an affordable entry into Ducati ownership, 749 values are now rising. Low-mileage, well-documented bikes command a premium, and the market has clearly distinguished the rare 'R' models, which sell for multiples of standard bikes. With an average sale price of just over $10,000, they represent a strong value in the world of Italian sportbikes.
