- Inspect the charging system. The original stators and regulator/rectifiers are common failure points. A multimeter check should show 13.5-14.5 volts at the battery when the engine is running above idle.
- Test the CB900C's unique dual-range transmission. Shifting between high and low ranges should be smooth. The selector mechanism can be difficult to repair if faulty.
- Examine the exhaust system for rust and damage. Original 4-into-4 systems are very hard to find, and many bikes have less desirable aftermarket pipes.
- Check the air-assisted suspension, if equipped. The forks and shocks on some models use air pressure for adjustment, and the seals can fail over time, causing them to leak down.
