Honda CBX

Honda launched the CBX in 1978 as its flagship superbike, an engineering statement built around a massive 1047cc, 24-valve, dual-overhead-cam inline-6. Producing 105 horsepower, it was the most powerful production motorcycle of its day. Its sheer size and complexity made it more of a muscle bike or grand tourer than a nimble canyon carver, but its technical specification and straight-6 howl were unforgettable.

The original 1979-1980 twin-shock models are the most coveted by collectors for their raw, un-faired look. For 1981 and 1982, Honda re-positioned the CBX as a sport-tourer, adding a fairing, saddlebags, and a Pro-Link monoshock rear suspension. While these later models are still collectible, the earlier, more elemental versions better capture the bike's audacious spirit.

The CBX market is strong, with an average sale price around $16,000. It's a blue-chip collectible in the classic Japanese motorcycle world. Buyers strongly prefer well-maintained, original examples with documented service history, as the intricate engine can be very expensive to repair if neglected. Pristine, low-mileage 1979 models regularly exceed $30,000, while later sport-touring versions offer a more accessible entry point.
